Friends of King County Animal Control

February 16th, 2007 by Sadie

Since hearing about all the poor puppies and kitties in the shelter in Las Vegas, I’ve been thinking a lot about when I was in a shelter. The people there were so nice and kind to all the poor homeless animals. They have lots of volunteers who help out by taking the doggies for walks, feeding all the animals, playing with them, and helping to get donations of supplies and money for the shelter. They do a pretty good job of finding homes for animals, but unfortunately they can’t help every animal. The shelter is often crowded and there just isn’t the space or resources to take care of every little homeless animal.

I thought that the folks at King County Animal Shelter, where my mama got me, might appreciate a link to the Friends of King County Animal Control website, just in case people might want to help animals in the King County Washington area. I’ve added a link my blogroll. If you can donate, all the furry and feathery critters will appreciate it.

Las Vegas animals need help!

February 16th, 2007 by Sadie

My mama told me today that there were a lot of animals in Las Vegas that need help. The shelters are overcrowded and they’re having to kill the poor puppies and kitties and other little critters because they’re getting sick and there’s not enough room to take care of them. That makes me cry because I know what they’re going through. My mama and papa rescued me from a shelter.

You can read more about the situation here. If you can please donate to the Nevada SPCA, there will be a lot of happy wagging tails like mine and my new buddy Ernie’s! He’s the one that told me all about the Nevada SPCA because he lives there. Thanks Ernie!

PetsHotel

February 1st, 2007 by Sadie

My mama and papa just got back from a trip to Las Vegas. While they were there, I got to stay at PetsHotel at our local PetSmart! PetsHotel offers 24 hour on-site care for dogs and cats and the accomodations are much better than any kennel I’ve ever been to! Mama says that the nice thing about it is that it doesn’t cost much more than my regular boarding place.

At first, I was a little nervous. I don’t like riding in the car. But when I got to PetSmart, the folks at PetsHotel were so happy to see me! There were other doggies there to meet too. I sniffed around and explored while mama checked me in.

Mama got me a suite because I can be nervous around a big group of dogs. My suite was a nice little private room with a comfy warm bed and a see-through door so I could see what was going on. They had asked mama if I ate out of a regular bowl or had a raised bowl ahead of time, so they already had my doggy dishes setup to my preference when I arrived. I also had a tv on to keep me occupied. It played fun doggy movies all day.

My favorite part of my stay was getting my walkies and playtime twice a day! PetsHotel offers both individual playtime and group sessions. Since I was so nervous, mama thought one-on-one playtime would be best… and it WAS! I had a great time.

PetsHotel also had kitty cottages in a separate wing. Each wing has its own ventilation system, which is good because if I had caught a sniff of those kitties, I would’ve been after them! I like chasing kitties.

They also have the Bone Booth so puppy parents can call and talk to their pets. I think that’s just neat!

When mama came to pick me up, the folks at PetsHotel gave her a “report card” to show how I did during my stay. The report card told her how I did at sleep time, play time, dinner time, and potty time. They told my mama that I adjusted well and was nice and comfy during my stay. The folks at the front desk were sad to see me go. They told mama that they would sneak in to see me between playtimes because I was just sooooooo sweet! They said they’d love to have me back again. I think they probably will on mama and papa’s next vacation. I hope so, cuz I liked it there!

Soggy Doggy Toys

November 15th, 2006 by Sadie

Remember I told you about my new doggy door and how I could take all my toys outside? Well, it rained and all my toys got soggy and muddy. Mama wasn’t too happy when I brought them inside and got the carpets all dirty. Well, fortunately, she has some Nature’s Miracle to clean our carpet with. It takes out all sorts of stains from yucky stuff like dirt and blood. When I have accidents or throw up, it cleans that up too! It even gets rid of the smell. Even *I* can’t smell it and I have a beagle nose, so that’s saying something.

My Doggy Door Revisited

October 6th, 2006 by Sadie

A while back I told you about my new doggy door. Well, I just had to tell you all about something neat I just discovered! I can take all my toys OUTSIDE if I just take them with me through the doggy door. Isn’t that just great?! Well, except I haven’t figured out how to take my hugemongous tug rope outside with me. It just doesn’t seem to want to fit through the door. It’s too wide! I’m still working on that issue though. I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon.

Frisbee!!

October 6th, 2006 by Sadie

I love to play frisbee. If mama and papa could throw a frisbee all day, I would chase it all day. I’ve tried those plastic frisbees before, but usually I chew them to pieces within days. What can I say? I love to chew!

My favorite frisbee is the Booda Soft Bite Big Daddy Floppy Disc . Wow, that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? What I like about it is that it’s made of soft and durable nylon, so it doesn’t hurt my mouth when I jump up and catch it or when I’m busy chewing on it. I even try to play tug with mama and papa with my frisbee (even though I’m not supposed to) and it hasn’t ripped yet.

You can even wash the frisbee, which I usually do myself in my little plastic pool. Then I take it out and shake it back and forth to dry.

I love my frisbee!

Little Dog Lost

September 22nd, 2006 by Sadie

The other night, my mama brought home a little lost dog that was wandering near a busy intersection. She couldn’t find the owner because the dog had no collar and no microchip. That poor little pup was so scared, I could tell. So, I thought it would be good to remind all of you reading this to get a collar and/or microchip for your pet, like mama did for me, so that if they ever get lost, you’d have a good chance of finding them again. It is also a good idea to spay or neuter your pet if you do not plan to breed them.

Mama took the little dog to the county shelter where she was well looked after. She wasn’t claimed by the owner, but she got adopted today and is going to a nice new home. Yay! Good luck, little doggy.

My doggy door

September 18th, 2006 by Sadie

When I want outside, I go to mama or papa and whine, whine, whine. Before we got a fence around our backyard that sure was tough on them. I wanted to go out a LOT to play and they had to come out to keep an eye on me so I didn’t wander off. Well, they got a new fence so I can go out all the time now. They even got a doggy door they put in the sliding glass door so I can come and go as I please. I’m still getting used to all this new freedom, but I LOVE it. I still go to mama and papa and whine sometimes when I want them to come out and play fetch with my favorite frisbee. I’ll tell you all about my frisbee in another post.

Air Dog Toys

September 18th, 2006 by Sadie

I’m part labrador retriever, so I LOVE to fetch. I also love to chew. I chew a LOT and I have some strong teeth, so I need some pretty durable toys. Well, air dog toys are some of my favorite because they’re durable, they’re chewy, and they’re bouncy because they’re made of tennis ball material. I LOVE tennis balls. You should see my tennis ball collection. I have a gazillion of ‘em! I’ve chewed and chewed my Air Dog toys, but I haven’t destroyed ‘em yet. I never get tired of them and will fetch them for hours on end. When mama and papa are busy, I just fling them around my yard myself and chase them. Anyway, these are the toys mama and papa got me.
